In 1932 under the name 'Pasta Medicinal Couto,' Dr. Alberto Ferreira do Couto invented Couto Toothpaste to restrict the growing phenomenon of gum retraction or gingivitis. Today it is an icon both for its wonderful 1930's packaging design and high-powered mint flavor.
